Samples from Vol. I
This book, compiled by Certified Genealogist Dawne Slater-Putt, comprises
nearly
10,000 births that took place in Indiana before recording of births
was required by law. These were culled from a wide variety of mostlly secondary
sources, including county histories (from both Indiana and other states),
genealogical periodicals, Civil War pension files, obituaries, and more.
Each entry includes the following information, when it is available: Person's
name, date of birth, county of birth father's name, and mother's maiden
name. A full index to mothers is included in the 278-page volume. Also
included is a complete list of sources, so that the researcher may check
the original source for additional information, and to judge its accuracy.
Remember:
These are secondary sources!
